The Transcendence Operas–Tales of TranscendenceBellissima Opera’s Tales of Transcendence: new operas for today’s world and audiences, is presented as a series of intimate works celebrating stories of everyday people who, as individuals and groups, have transcended the human divide. Christine Steyer and David Shenton will serve as librettist and composer, respectively, for the first four operas in the series.
In April 2021, Bellissima Opera will premiere the first opera in the series: On Call: COVID-19 (a one-act opera). This opera will honor the stories of six Health Care Workers on the frontlines of the COVID crisis who provide a lifeline for each other. In 2022, Bellissima Opera will premiere Future Perfect a full-length opera co-created with 1,300 Chicago–area youth. Future Perfect tells the adventures of the intuitive and curious Miranette, a girl who leaves a forbidding society that has lost its connection to the outside world. Along her journey, Miranette meets a colorful cast of characters who teach her invaluable lessons while, in turn, she engulfs them in a web of quantum entanglement―a state where anything is possible. Tales of Transcendence will continue in subsequent years with Outside the Ring based on the unlikely friendship between the German boxer Max Schmeling and American boxer Joe Louis, and Reconciliation examining Restorative Justice in our world today and its impact on communities searching for healing. |
